Monarda Cambridge Scarlet commonly known as Bergamot is a clump forming, herbaceous perennial which forms a wonderful clump of lanceolate leaves which are green, tinged with a bronze colouring. In the months from July through to September the Monarda Cambridge Scarlet will bloom erect stems with whorls of two lipped flowers, deep scarlet coloured. Suiting a variety of planting locations, garden types and planting schemes the Monarda is a good all round garden plant grown by many for its stricking red flowers and interest in the late summer months.
Monarda Cambridge Scarlet care
The Monarda Cambridge Scarlet thrives in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist, well drained soil, making sure to protect from excessive winter wet and not allowing the plant to dry out in summer months which it would dislike. In Autumn some pruning is required, deadhead regularly and cut the plant down to ground level to encourage a bushy, healthy growth throughout the upcoming season. It is also recommended to lift and divide the Monarda every three years.
