Helleborus Orientalis, commonly known as Lantern Rose is a clump forming evergreen perennial with deep green, leathery leaves and in February to April the Helleborus Orientalis produces wonderful saucer shaped flowers which come in a wide range of colours. Interestingly this Helleborus flower colours are a lucky dip, sometimes white, sometimes purple, and pink, red etc. A real treat when your waiting in anticipation for the blooms.
Can make a lovely ground cover plant and used for underplanting roses and trees. Suitable for a range of planting schemes with heavy, well drained soils.
Helleborus Orientalis care
Plant the Helleborus Orientalis in a partially shaded area in the garden which has heavy, natural to alkaline soil which is well drained. Frost hardy but may need winter protection. We would advise in January and February to cut back the leaves to ground level which better shows the flowers and will remove dead or damaged foliage in the process. In autumn, mulch the base of the plant.
