Eryngium Bourgatii Picos Amethyst , also known as the ‘Sea Holly Picos Amethyst’, is a striking compact perennial plant that is native to Mediterranean regions. It is known for its spiky, silvery-blue leaves and cone shaped flower heads with narrow, spiny, usually silvery-blue or violet bracts.  The plant typically grows between 30-60 cm in height, and produces a striking display of flowers in the Summer.

This plant is drought-tolerant and can tolerate poor soils, making it a great choice for rock gardens or coastal gardens. It prefers full sun and moist, well-draining soil.

How to care for your Eryngium Bourgatii Picos Amethyst

  1. Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade, but can tolerate some shade.
  2. Water: The plant is drought-tolerant and can survive on very little water. However, it is best to water it occasionally during prolonged droughts.
  3. Soil: The plant prefers moist, well-draining soil, but can tolerate a wide range of soil types.
  4. Fertiliser: Does not require regular fertilisation. If you decide to fertilise, it is best to do so in the Spring, using a balanced fertiliser.
  5. Pruning: Does not require regular pruning. You can cut back the dead flowers in late Autumn or early Spring.
  6. Winter protection: It is hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C. However, it is best to provide it with a mulch layer to protect the roots from cold.
