Cercidiphyllum Japonica commonly known as Katsura Tree is a lovely, deciduous, large shrub or small tree which has heart shaped, broad leaves around 10cm in width. The colours of the foliage are the true beauty of this shrub. When young they are a bronze/orange tinge, turning into oranges, pinks, and yellows in autumn time, producing a wonderful fragrance, resembling burnt sugar!
A must have garden plant that is a good all rounder, suiting many conditions, locations and fitting in well with garden designs. A good architectural choice, and low maintenance which makes for a good, easy to grow garden plant!
Cercidiphyllum Japonica care
Plant the Cercidiphyllum Japonica in a sunny, partially shaded area where the foliage will produce the best colours in full sun, sheltered from strong cold winds and with moist, well drained soils makes for a stunning shrub. Generally disease and pest free and requiring minimal pruning makes a good plant for both beginner and expert gardeners alike. In winter, simply remove any dead or damaged branches to encourage a healthy, bushy growth in the following seasons.
