Berberis X Stenophylla commonly known as Golden Barberry is a bushy evergreen shrub with spiny foliage of small glossy, dark green leaves on arching stems.
In April and May it produces these beautiful small golden yellow, cup like flowers followed by dark blue berries which are favourites with the wildlife. With the spiny foliage this Berberis acts as a good security border plant, often planted to the edges of the garden to deter any unwelcome guests. Other planting locations can include, hedging or screening, flower beds or borders and good in cottage garden schemes.
Berberis X Stenophylla care
The Berberis X Stenophylla thrives in a sunny or partially shaded location in moist, well drained soil. The Berberis can grow in any soil type apart from boggy or waterlogged. Known for its ease of growing, being generally disease and pest free and requiring little maintenance making this shrub a perfect addition to a low maintenance garden and for gardeners of all abilities.
We recommend to prune once a year during autumn, simply pruning lightly any branches to encourage healthy growth and maintain its shape.
