Plant InformationPrunus Kojo-No-Mai, also known as ‘Fuji Cherry’ and holder of the much coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, is an upright deciduous shrub. This plant is native to Japan and is commonly grown for its beautiful ornamental value, particularly for its showy pink blossoms that bloom in early Spring.
The plant typically grows to a height of 2.5 metres, with a similar spread. It has a vase-shaped growth habit, with upright and spreading branches that are covered with ovate, serrated leaves that are about 5 cm long. The leaves emerge in Spring with a bronze or copper colour, turn green during the Summer, and then turn yellow to orange-red in the Autumn.
It produces abundant flowers in early Spring, usually in March or April, before the leaves appear. The flowers are light pink or white, and have a delicate fragrance. The flowers are borne in clusters of 2-5 on the stems, which creates a stunning display of colour.
