Vitis Seibel or more commonly known as Grape Vine is an easy to grow, deciduous climber plant which has a real hardy nature. With largely lobed mid green leaves which hang from striking red shoots, and in Summer months the Vitis Seibel will produce lots of edible dark blue, almost black grapes. This climber loves a good long summer and will produce even more grapes the longer the summer lasts.
One of the easiest grape vines to grow suiting all garden types and locations, especially a warm sunny border, against a wall or pagoda where the vine can climb, often also grown in warm, sunny conservatories.
Vitis Seibel
Plant the Seibel in a warm, sunny area of the garden which has good, well drained soil where it will thrive. When the small green flowers appear in early summer we would recommend to prune these straight away in the first 2 years to allow the root system to really establish well. Pruning will be required in Winter removing any more than the 5 side branches to encourage a healthy growth the following season. Making sure to pick the grapes when they are ripe enough as they will not ripen once picked.
