Parrotia Persica commonly known as Persian Ironwood is a bushy, deciduous large shrub or small tree which has oval shaped mid green leaves which become striking yellow, red and purple colours in the autumn months. The bark on the tree will flake, creating a lovely appeal. In the months of January to February the Parrotia Persica will bloom crimson coloured flowers which stand at the tips of bare branches across the shrub.
Being a large shrub or small tree the Parrotia makes a great architectural plant that can be grown to create height and architectural interest. Suitable for low maintenance gardens also.
Parrotia Persica care
Plant the Parrotia Persica in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist well drained soils where it will thrive. Known to be easy to grow, generally pest and disease free and requires little to no pruning. Simply remove any dead or damaged branches in winter months if required, naturally this shrub will grow to a good shape although sometimes may need a very light prune to encourage a different shape.
