Myrtus Communis commonly known as Common Myrtle is a bushy, evergreen shrub with oval shaped small green leaves known to be lightly aromatic. In the months from July to August the Myrtus Communis will bloom across the arching branches fluffy, white flowers. Closely followed by dark purple berries.

Suitable for a variety of planting schemes, and locations and garden types making a good all round garden plant. Planted well in flower beds and borders, wall side borders and can be grown in a container/pot good for patios, balconies and gardens without grass. If grown together the Myrtus can create a dense hedging plant to add privacy to the garden with light green colour and white flowers.

Myrtus Communis care

The Myrtus Communis thrives in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden protected from cold winds where it will thrive. Needing moist, well drained soils and a generous amount of mulch to the base of the plant in early spring. Generally disease and pest free and some pruning means the Communis is a good shrub for beginner and expert gardeners alike. Simply remove any dead or damaged, unwanted growth in late spring to encourage healthy growth.
