Iris Ensata Variegata, commonly known as Japanese water iris is a pretty, clump forming herbaceous perennial which has green/grey tinged, long narrow leaves often with a light yellow stripe. In April, May and June the Iris Ensata Variegata bears tall, slender erect stems which have deep purple flowers with a red tinge, the falls are often flushed in a dark purple also. With dark flowers they contrast well with the grey/green leaves to create a lovely display for all to admire.
This Iris can be planted almost anywhere in the garden and suits a wide variety of garden types and planting schemes and is a firm favourite with many designer gardeners!
