Hydrangea ‘Villosa’, commonly known as rough leaved hydrangea is a bushy, upright, deciduous shrub with oval shaped green leaves with a velvet like feel to them. In the months of August and September the Hydrangea ‘Villosa’ produces lovely purple and blue flowers which are surrounded in white florets, creating a beautiful flower overall. The flowers are also attractive to bees and butterflies which bring extra benefits to the garden!

Often planted in flower beds and flower borders where the foliage and flowers create a beautiful sight, further suiting a wide range of planting types including cottage and informal planting.

Hydrangea Villosa care

Plant the Hydrangea ‘Villosa’ in a sunny, partially shaded location with moist, well drained soils where it will thrive. In dry weather and months make sure to water well as the Hydrangeas dislike dry conditions. In spring remove any of the faded flowerhead cutting the stems back to a pair of buds, whilst also removing any dead or damaged shoots which will encourage a health growth. Young plants can benefit from a good mulch in spring yearly.
