Hydrangea Aspera Hot Chocolate, is a captivating perennial shrub renowned for its unique and eye-catching flower coloration. The leaves emerge with a deep chocolate hue, gradually maturing to a dark green while retaining a rich undertone. This unique colouration adds depth and interest to the garden, providing a beautiful backdrop for its vibrant blooms. The plant itself has a rounded, bushy habit, reaching a height of approximately 4 metres and a  spread of around 2.5 metres, making it suitable for borders, hedges, or as a standalone specimen.

From mid-Summer to early Autumn it bursts into bloom with large, mop head flower clusters. These flowers comprise of blue purple inner fertile florets and cup shaped soft pink ray florets.  The contrast between the dark foliage and the light, airy blooms is truly eye-catching and adds a touch of elegance to any garden setting.

Hydrangea Aspera Hot Chocolate care

Plant the Hydrangea Aspera Hot Chocolate in a sunny, partially shaded location of the garden with moist, well drained soils where it will thrive, recommended to be in a sheltered position to prevent damaging winds against the flower heads. Light pruning is required, in spring months cutting back the flower heads to the next two buds, leaving the flower heads on over the winter will protect the buds below. Mulch well in spring for the younger plants until they become well established.
