Heuchera Obsidian, commonly known as Alum root is a clump forming, compact semi-evergreen perennial with glossy, lobed leaves a dark red, almost black colour in spring turning fully black the more the perennial matures. In June to July the Heuchera Obsidian bears almost erect stems above the foliage with small creamy white coloured flowers which brightens the dark foliage up.
Suitable planting locations are almost anywhere, included flower beds and borders, underplanting roses and trees, banks and slopes. Can make a good cut flower, and can also be grown in containers and pots which makes it perfect for a balcony or non grassed garden.
Heuchera Obsidian care
Plant the Heuchera Obsidian in a sunny, partially shaded location with moist, well drained soils. If only moist soil is available this perennial will cope in shadier positions. An easy to grow perennial plant that makes a perfect plant for beginner and expert gardeners alike. Mulch annually to prevent disease. Once flowered simply deadhead the plant and remove any dead or damaged foliage to encourage healthy growth into the other elements of the plant.
