Corylus Avellana Contorta commonly known as Corkscrew Hazel is a bushy, deciduous shrub with twisted and contorted branches which bear these oval shaped mid green leaves. In the months of February and March the Corylus Avellana Contorta will bloom these pendant yellow catkins which brighten the plant up, a favourite with wildlife. Mainly grown for the unusual branches which will show when the leaves fall.

Often planted in groups where the Corylus can form a strong bush/screening plant and suitable for a variety of low maintenance planting schemes, garden locations and garden types.

Corylus Avellana Contorta care

Plant the Corylus Avellana Contorta in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist, well drained, chalky soils where it will thrive. Generally disease free and none to little pruning does make a good plant for beginner and expert gardeners alike. In March simply prune any dead or damaged branches and any which begin to grow outside of your desired shape, however the Corylus Avellana Contorta will form a natural, strong framework. Responds well to a good mulch applied to the base of the plant following a prune.
