Berberis Darwinii commonly known as Darwins Barberry is a bushy evergreen shrub which produces broad oblong, spined mid green leaves. The Berberis Darwinii bears in the months of April and May beautiful clusters of small, bright, rich orange flowers followed closely by dark blue autumn berries, often producing a second flourish of flowers.
This shrub is a firm favourite for creating an informal flowering hedge, planted in groups creates a wonderful, colourful screening. We recommend to plant in numbers to create a hedge but can be planted on slopes, individually and in coastal gardens.
Berberis Darwinii care
The Berberis Darwinii thrives in a sunny location with moist well drained soil. Known as an easy to grow garden plant the Berberis is generally disease and pest free, requiring little pruning. We recommend pruning any stray branches to maintain bushy growth in autumn and winter. With a hedge of the Berberis Darwinii the leaves create a prickly spike to prevent any unwanted guests so can be used at garden edges for added security.
