Agapanthus Africanus Heavenly Grace, commonly known as ‘African Lily’ is a new variety that was discovered locally in Somerset in a batch of Agapanthus Africanus seedlings several years ago. It has the delightful blue flowers of the Lily of the Nile combined with the subtle creamy white variegated leaves which makes this an unusual addition to the Agapanthus range.
Agapanthus Africanus Heavenly Grace Care
To ensure your Agapanthus Heavenly Grace thrives, plant it in a location that receives full sun. It prefers well-drained soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, but it performs best in slightly acidic to neutral soil. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
In early spring, applying a balanced, slow-release fertiliser can support healthy growth and promote abundant blooming. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage a longer flowering period and prevent the plant from self-seeding if that is desired. In colder climates, providing mulch around the base of the plant in winter can help protect the roots from frost. With the right care, this Agapanthus cultivar will bring enduring beauty and grace to your outdoor space throughout the growing season.
