If you think that gardening is just for those with gardens … you’re probably right. However, plants and flowers can be enjoyed by everyone whether you have an outside space or not. If you lack access to a garden you can still enjoy the aesthetics and responsibilities of gardening, without the muddy boots. Here is our guide to low- maintenance indoor plants for any would-be gardener.
Rubber plants
The rubber plant has large waxy leaves and grows tall. It does not require a lot of water. It prefers indirect light, so it doesn’t get too hot. The sap can irritate the skin so it’s wise not to let young children touch it.
Cacti and succulents
These plants vary in size and do not require frequent watering. There is such a vast range of cacti and succulents available and they look great in brightly coloured pots to decorate the home.

Yucca
A yucca plant loves the sunlight so makes a perfect addition to a conservatory. It needs to be planted in a deep pot as it has top-heavy stems and it needs to be watered sparingly.
Spider plant
Spider plants thrive in well-lit areas and they will require weekly watering. Spider plants produce baby spider plants that can be re-potted, and they look lovely in modern hanging pots
Aloe
The Aloe plant likes indirect light and its spiky leaves are eye-catching to look at. It needs a good water every week or so.
Begonia
To add a splash of colour amongst the greenery, the Begonia is a beautiful choice. They come in many different colours and they don’t require much water.
Peace Lily
An elegant addition to an indoor plant collection, the Peace Lily needs good drainage and indirect sunlight. It is un-intrusive so is perfect for small dwellings and has a classic look which suits modern or traditional décor
Anthurium
Regular watering required but only when the soil has dried out. The waxy red flowers are eye-catching and vibrant, so it provides a pop of colour amidst green leaves. Place it somewhere to avoid direct sunlight.
Snake Plant
Also known as mother-in-law’s tongue, this plant has attractive, vertically growing leaves. It will grow well in any lighting conditions and the soil should be kept fairly dry.
Pothos Ivy
This indoor plant has trailing stems that make it work well in indoor hanging plant pots. If it starts to get too long just trim it back and it will remain healthy. The soil needs to dry in-between watering.
Nurturing indoor plants can help reduce stress and having indoor plants that emit oxygen will purify the air in your home. All indoor plants improve and complement different home décor and you can choose a range of beautiful decorative plant pots for them to grow in.
