Berberis Thunbergii Golden Ring, commonly known as Japanese Barberry is a truly beautiful, bushy, deciduous shrub with stunning foliage, this being the star of the show! The leaves begin deep purple turning a vibrant, bright red in autumn, narrowly edged in a golden yellow, hence the name Golden Ring, a great colour contrast.

In March and April it bears small straw yellow flowers which are closely followed by glossy, bright red berries, a favourite with wildlife. Popular planted in flower beds and borders and once planted in groups can form a beautiful coloured screening plant of hedge.

Berberis Thunbergii Golden Ring care

Plant the Berberis Thunbergii Golden Ring in a sunny or partially shaded location, thriving in moist well drained soil, the Berbers can cope in almost any soil apart from waterlogged.

Being generally disease and pest free it is a firm favourite for low maintenance gardens. With minimal pruning; lightly prune to encourage bushy growth and maintain its current shape shortly after flowering. To further promote growth and bushy habit, apply a light fertiliser in early spring which the Berberis loves.
