With the festive season now a distant memory, don’t forget to use your Christmas tree as mulch by putting through a good shredder.
- Improve the growing environment for your plants by cleaning your glass or plastic greenhouse, cleaning the glass, gutters and any water butts which may need it. This will prepare you for the season ahead!
- If the patio needs some TLC now is the perfect time to do it! You have two good options here, a pressure washer or good old fashioned elbow grease to remove the slime which forms over the winter months.
- Feed the hungry birds with food and water on a regular basis this month.
- Cultivate any patches of soil which haven’t been already.
- If you have seen the white stuff ‘snow!’ in your garden, try not to walk across the lawn, with the frozen grass and heavy footprints, could lead to damage underneath.

- Sedums will need to be cut down this month, making sure not to damage any new growth.
- Faded winter pansies can be removed which will then prevent them setting seed again.
- Any rose bushes, whilst dormant, can be cut back right to the bud removing any dead or damaged branches in the process.
